Evangelists, eat your heart out. Buddhists reach out too — in bars!

This article seems strangely appropriate for the time of year — don’t ask me why — short attention span and all.

Being a “western” country, we’re used to, in conventional culture, hearing about our local church going to outreach in other countries, and working to spread the word through local reach-outs, events, etc. It is an attempt at spreading the word without smacking you over the head with The Good Book too hard. I can very easily see the same thing happening in Islam and Judaism. But you don’t hear about Buddhists much.

It turns out that at least monks are trying such kinds of outreach. Well, perhaps not the same. This sounds like something out of Sister Act.

From the article:

After their first session on the stage, which lasts about 20 minutes, they sit down with the audience for a drink and a chat. One of the monks gets a bag of balloons out of his pocket and starts sculpting balloon flowers for some of the older ladies sitting around the room.
